  • The Decemberists waste no time. Earlier this year they released the LP What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World and now they’re back at it. Today they’ve announced plans to release a 5-track EP of songs that didn’t make the album, called Florasongs, on October 9. Listen to the album’s opening track, “Why Would I Now?,” below. • Supergroup The Dead Weather (Jack White, Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita, and Jack Lawrence) have shared a brand new track from their upcoming album, Dodge and Burn (out September 25). “Cop and Go” is a fuzzy piece of southern rock with Mosshart really channelling her inner Joan Jett. [CoS]

  • Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell will drop his fifth solo album, Higher Truth, on September 18. Today, he’s shared the video for the album track “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart.” Cornell starts in this mini-western film where he solemnly awaits his lynching. [Stereogum]

  • Muse recently covered Chvrches amazing The Bones of What You Believe track “Lie” as part of the BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge series. Matt Bellamy and company take the song in a grittier direction than the original. Honestly, both versions are pretty amazing. [SPIN]
