Live Video: Beat Connection

photo by Dave Lichterman (view set)

We couldn’t be more excited for Seattle electronic group Beat Connection, who’ve seen nothing but forward, progressive growth over the six years of their existence. From the nu-house leanings of their debut EP, Surf Noir, and the massive pop thresholds of Palace Garden, the band has reached a focal point with Product 3, their new LP to be released October 23rd on ANTI- Records. With every subsequent single we’ve heard from it, Beat Connection seem more and more like they’ve dialed into the sound they’ve been searching for from the beginning. But while Beat Connection’s records have the ability to bottle most of their magic, the only way to really understand the band is to see them live. Reed Juenger’s unshaken attention to production detail and Tom Eddy’s electric brightness make for engaging frontmen, while the drum and bass tandem of Jarred Katz and Mark Hunter keep the foundation moving along like a bullet train. As they performed these songs together in the KEXP studio, the pieces only fit tighter than we’ve heard before. “Another Go Round” is lush and soaring. “Illusion” is a cool, collected dreamland. “Hesitation” and “So Good” both explode with bouncy euphoria. The world that Beat Connection occupy is bright, sleek, and completely separate, and you want to be there with them more with every song. If this is an omen of what’s to come, then Beat Connection are just getting started on their way to greatness. Watch their full set in the KEXP studio now:
