KEXP

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This week, we are featuring artists performing the 2015 Decibel Festival, which runs September 23-27. All songs are selected by DJ Sharlese. Sharlese’s pick for today is "Abandoned Beauties and Beasts" by Dasha Rush from the 2015 album Sleepstep on Raster-Noton.

Dasha Rush - Abandoned Beauties and Beasts (MP3)Says Sharlese...

I learned about Dasha Rush from Masa, one of the hosts of KEXP’s all Electronic show, Expansions. He tipped me to her album Sleepstep (Sonar Poems for my sleepless friends), which came out this year. She is a Russian born techno producer and this track is one of my favorites from the release. The album has a beautiful epic opening, the whole release is a super adventurous conceptual piece of experimental ambient and deeper rhythmic sounds. It’s dark with a mysterious quality, it’s emotional, it’s beautiful, and one of the best releases to come out in 2015. It dips into melody, it expands your mind and your soul. I highly recommended listening to the album on headphones. She is definitely one of my top artist for the festival this year. Dasha Rush played last night at the Lucid Dream showcase with Recondite and Jon Charnis at Neumos, but if you missed her, you can see her tonight, Saturday, September 26th, at the Optical 1: Dark Overtones showcase at The Triple Door with Tim Hecker and Alexander Lewis.
