When it comes to young bands making self-assured, thoughtful and influence-referencing music, Ought already do. The Montreal-based four-piece formed just three years ago amid a burgeoning DIY scene in the city's Mile End district and, while drawing heavily from sonic inspirations like Talking Heads, Sonic Youth and The Fall, have fashioned a sound of their own on two albums and two EPs. Recently, they stopped by KEXP to reveal songs from their refreshing new release, Sun Coming Down, which despite its sometimes anxious and urban post-punk gloom feels like a sun coming up on a brand new day. Step out and enjoy the beautiful blue sky as only Ought can see.
