The Callas - It's Sunday I'm Bleeding (MP3)

Spring weather in Seattle is as cruel as it is sweet. Rays of sun will shine down for days before being swept away by classic Seattle drizzle. It's a variation that demands a playlist that can cater to the sunny highs and the rainy lows, a task Athens, Greece-based band The Callas is tailored perfectly for. The band is just one of many artistic outlets for brothers Lakis & Aris Ionas, who also make feature films, create magazines and throw art shows at their venue the Velvet Room. When joined by Chrysanthi Tsoukala and Marilena Petridou to form The Callas, they perform music on everything from boats to churches, with everyone from Ty Segall to The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The brothers and their band clearly embrace variety, and the sentiment shines especially clear on 2016 release, Half Kiss Half Pain, where they display an assortment of equally excellent sonic variations. With the group threading their sound through everything from dark broody rock, to abrasive grungy punk, to harmony ridden shoegaze, the album offers a song for any type of weather and the corresponding emotions it may cause. Album cut and song of the day "It's Sunday I'm Bleeding" is a perfect choice for the current sunshine, as it is one of the warmest offerings on the project. The track offers gentle melodies over a flowing bed of fuzz and features a plucky guitar line that dances with the harmonizing vocals of Tsoukala and the Ionas. They alternate in a mellow swing that is sure to carry on in the mind long after the track has stopped and the sunshine has dissipated.

Unfortunatly the band doesnt have any announced U.S. shows, but keep an eye on their Facebook and website for possible tour announcements. In the meantime check out their (slightly NSFW) video for fellow Half Kiss Half Pain track "Sad Erection" below:
