Live Video: Frightened Rabbit

“You don’t need to do that same ol’ shtick.” That’s apparently what Aaron Dessner of The National told Scott Hutchison, founder and frontman of UK group Frightened Rabbit. Since their 2003 debut album, the Scottish group have become known for their anthemic guitar-based songs, punctuated with lyrics of heartache and loneliness. With their latest release, Painting of a Panic Attack, Dessner stepped in as producer, guiding the Scottish quintet towards more electronic elements with “gentle, subtle” pushes, as Hutchison describes it. Hear the result, and hear how the album process made Hutchison cry, in this intimate, candid in-studio session with DJ Cheryl Waters.
