Song of the Day: Heron Oblivion - Your Hollows

If you're looking for Heron Oblivion, you'll likely find them floating in the aether, ascending above the afterburn of '60s psychedelic rock and the fumes of each band member's other projects. Forged from unstructured jam sessions between friends, the Bay Area-based group melds the mind-melting riffs of Comets On Fire bandmates Ethan Miller and Noel Von Harmonson, and Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound's Charlie Sauffley with the antiquated atmospherics of vocalist and drummer Meg Baird (of Espers). Their self-titled debut pulses with acid-feuled energy as it winds through fiery freakouts, rambling rockers, dredging dirges and distorted drones, often in the same song. Today's featured song, the album's final track, takes such a journey, from a fluttering flicker to an engulfed burn-burner, drawn by Baird's breathy voice and fanned by Von Harmonson's and Sauffley's scorching attacks. Like the rest of the LP, "Your Hollows" is ablaze with a lovingly anachronistic intensity.
