Song of the Gay: Mykki Blanco - High School Never Ends

Although Mykki Blanco has been releasing mixtapes and EPs since 2012, KEXP listeners most likely know the transgender hip-hop artist for his high-profile cameos on 2014 albums by Tricky (Adrian Thaws) and Basement Jaxx (Junto). The lead single from Blanco’s forthcoming debut album, “High School Never Ends” also features a stunning video, directed by Matt Lambert. "No one has seen this side of Mykki Blanco yet, and though The Mykki of ‘High School Never Ends' is a character, it is the closest to who I actually am and I felt a trust in director Matt Lambert to portray this," says Blanco. “This story is about outsiders, forbidden love... when the Far Left & the Far Right are willing to go to any extreme to prevail in their truth".
