Caveman - Never Going Back (MP3)

Since their formation in 2010, Caveman have kept pretty busy. From self-releasing their debut record in 2012, to putting out two more since and touring with names like The War on Drugs, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, and White Rabbit, these past six years have been pretty prolific. The Brooklyn quintet, consisting of vocalist Matthew Iwanusa, guitarist Jimmy Carbonetti, bassist Jeff Berrall, keyboardist Sam Hopkins, and multi-instrumentalist Stefan Marolachakis, remained relatively under the radar for about three years following the release of their second self-titled record. In early 2016 however, Caveman finally announced their third record, Otero War, which they released earlier this month.

The first song, and lead single from Otero War, is “Never Going Back,” which is thoroughly sun-faded indie rock with a twinge of pop in the melodies, not to mention the The Killers-esque synth and bass that explode towards the end of the track. Reminiscent of The War on Drugs and Fleetwood Mac, Caveman enclose a sense of nostalgia inside “Never Going Back” that contrasts with the initial outward feeling of eagerness.

If you’re hoping to catch Caveman live this summer, you’re in luck, as they’re playing several festivals across the United States. You can also catch them in Seattle headlining the Mural Amphitheatre on Friday August 12th, in part of the Concerts at the Mural series, presented by KEXP and Seattle Center. Be sure to check their website and Facebook page for any other announcements and updates. For now, watch the video for today's featured song:
