Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is "Ambulance" by The Amazing from their 2016 album, Ambulance, on Partisan Records.

The Amazing - Ambulance (MP3)

Nothing like setting the bar high! Though he named his band The Amazing, principle singer and songwriter Christoffer Gunrup has been known to say, "All band names are rubbish, but if you like the music, any name is okay." Fortunately, the critics seem to agree that the Swedish group is quite good, and while their newly released fourth LP, Ambulance, might seem somewhat more melancholy, it's a blissful continuation of the band's atmospheric, psych-tinged dream-pop. It's also a deeper exploration of their looser compositions, thanks in large part to guitarist Reine Fiske, also Dungen, and his love for prog music. Today's featured song, and the album's title track, holds itself a bit tighter than others on this live-recorded LP and is a mid-tempo stunner, recalling fellow Swedes The Mary Onettes and the American indie classics Red House Painters. If dreamy wonder is your thing, it doesn't get much better than The Amazing.

The Amazing are not currently touring right, but if they do, you'll find out all about it on their website and Facebook page. Until then, check out the official video for "Ambulance":
