Congratulations to Bob Dylan, winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature! Also a critically acclaimed memoirist, Dylan was awarded the prize "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition", and he's the first American to win the prize in over 20 years! The 75-year old icon's impact on music throughout the world is undeniable, so much that Swedish Academy secretary, Sara Danius, compared his songwriting to the the timeless literature of the ancient Greeks, like Homer and Sappho. It's timely that the Nobel Committee chose Bob Dylan, given the current state of the world, adding that he "recorded a large number of albums revolving around topics like the social conditions of man, religion, politics and love". Today, we celebrate that love and the genius of Bob Dylan.
