  • Sam Bean just wants to have fu-un, which is why Iron & Wine have recorded this cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.” Actually, it was recorded for a McDonald’s commercial… but he liked it so much, he’s shared the full version. Listen, to both, below: [Stereogum]

  • Madrid-based quartet Hinds share a cover today, too, but as far as we know, it soundtracks no fast food ads. Listen to their take on “Holograma” by Los Nastys below. The band released this (unedited) statement about the track: “first of all, you’re gonna notice this song is in spanish (OMG!) second of all, you have to know we didn’t write it (OMFG!!!) so with these things you would probably wonder what made us think it’s a good idea to record this song and release it?? are hinds going crazy and they don’t like their own songs already?!NOOOOOOO! neveeerrr!!!! the thing is this song is from Los Nastys, the thing is that covering this song was the beginning of this band (or at least one of them, ’cause our beginnings are v confusing), it was the first thing we played after a break of almost 2 years..and covering songs from bands you love used to be a great tradition that people dont do that much anymore. but the real thing is that we think Los Nastys are the best band in the world. since ever and forever. and that all we have to say about this.” The cover is included on the deluxe reissue of the band’s debut Leave Me Alone, which is out today. • It’s been over twenty years, but A Tribe Called Quest are returning with a new album. Sadly, founding member Phife Dawg passed away during the album’s recording, but via a handwritten statement on Facebook, Q-Tip states, “he left us with the blueprint with what we had to do.” Read the entire statement below. No title for the new album yet, but it will hit stores on November 11th. [Consequence of Sound]
