  • The vocal interplay between Colin Meloy and Laura Viers is well documented on albums by The Decemberists. But, for fan-favorite "Yankee Bayonet," they almost went with another vocalist! Hearing is believing: stream a demo version recorded with Alela Diane below. The outtake will be included in the 10th anniversary edition of The Crane Wife, a 5xLP box set featuring the original album, rare b-sides, bonus tracks, and more previously unreleased material, as well as a Blu-ray concert DVD, a 20-page booklet with liner notes by rock writer David Fricke, and an essay by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. Get yours December 9th via Capitol Records/Universal Music Enterprises. [Consequence of Sound]

There's also this "oldie" from 2010’s At Echo Lake -- stream the single "Suffering Season" below. [Pitchfork]

  • Quebec'ian rockers The Besnard Lakes have a 12" scheduled for a February release, The Besnard Lakes Are the Divine Wind. Stream the track "Laura Lee" below, and keep an eye out for its release on February 3rd via Jagjaguwar. [Under the Radar]
