Nick Cave

  • If you missed last night’s encore screening of One More Time With Feeling at SIFF Cinema Uptown, you’ll be glad to know the emotional Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds documentary will be coming to DVD and Blu-ray (in both 2D and 3D formats) on March 3rd. Director Andrew Dominik gives an intimate look at the making of their sixteenth album, Skeleton Tree (KEXP review here), and the terrible tragedy of Cave’s 15-year-old son Arthur, who passed away in 2015. Watch a trailer for the film below. [Pitchfork]

  • A music video for an 11-minute-long song is essentially a short film, and that’s what we get from Calgary post-punkers Preoccupations for the track “Memory,” featuring guest vocals from fellow Canadian Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade. The guys wisely recruited award winning director Kevan Funk to create the clip, which the band say, is “about watching a loved one lose their mental grip.” Funk took inspiration from the real life story of Tunisian street vendor Mohammed Bouazizi, who lit himself on fire in December 2010 after years of harassment from the police. In a press release, Funk explains, “I don’t mean to sound dark, but there’s something poetic about a fire burning inside someone so intensely that one day, it actually physically manifested. You ask yourself, how much pain can we take? How much control do we have?” Watch below: [Under the Radar]

  • Let’s lighten up this Music News Roundup a bit with this promo clip from “constant hit maker” Kurt Vile. He’s joined by Philadelphia Eagles’ Connor Barwin who helps him hype up a New Year’s Eve show at The Fillmore in their hometown. (The NFL “constant sacker” is, apparently, a huge indie rock fan.) Here’s hoping Matador Records will someday share the outtakes from this, ’cause it’s pretty hilarious. Watch below: [Pitchfork]

  • And new music from Jersey jangle-pop pioneers The Feelies! Since the band reunited in 2011 after a nearly 20-year-long hiatus, they’ve been active, writing new songs and playing shows (though not in Seattle yet, booo). The results of that labor are featured on In Between, out February 24th via Bar None Records. Stream the first single “Been Replaced” below. [Pitchfork]
