  • Despite a music career that’s lasted half a century, Iggy Pop is just now being nominated for a Golden Globe. Instead of honoring him for his persona-defying role as Nona’s Dad in The Adventures of Pete & Pete, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association have given him and collaborator Danger Mouse a nod for the theme song to the upcoming Matthew McConaughey movie Gold. Clearly, a song titled “Gold” should win a Golden Globe, right? Right. The 74th Golden Globe Awards will air January 8th, 2017 on NBC. [Spin]

  • If you were jealous that Seattle got a Sigur Rós show this year, and your city didn’t, don’t fret. The Icelandic icons have just announced a slew of 2017 North American tour dates for Springtime. Much like the 2016 tour, there’s no opener, the touring band is stripped down to a trio, and attendees get two career-spanning sets separated by an intermission each night. Tickets go on sale this Friday, December 16th. See tour dates in this fancy trailer they’ve shared, below: [Under the Radar]

  • Similarly, Animal Collective have announced a handful of new North American tour dates, but they weren’t slick enough to create a trailer for it. (C’mon, guys.) The boys stopped by the Neptune Theatre earlier this year in support of their 11th full length, Painting With, and we’re sure the second wave will be just as fun. [Pitchfork]
  • One of the most victorious (and bittersweet) comebacks of 2016 comes from A Tribe Called Quest whose first (and well, last) new album in 18 years earned the band their first number one record on the Billboard charts, a feat we all wish founding member Phife Dawg were still alive to see. (The rapper passed away earlier this year from complications due to diabetes.) (Also, the LP We Got it From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service is making a lot of KEXP DJ Top Ten lists, too.) Late last week, the boys stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform the track “Dis Generation,” joined by honorary group member Busta Rhymes. Watch the moving performance below, and keep track of all these late night television highlights with KEXP’s TV Eye. [Consequence of Sound]
