  • We often forget, but even Patti Smith — an icon who has inspired and influenced a generation — had her own musical idols in her youth, in this case, Bob Dylan. As you may have heard by now, Smith was invited to perform at the induction ceremony for Dylan’s Nobel Peace Prize for Literature, and stumbled on the lyrics to “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall,” telling the audience humbly, “I apologize, I’m sorry, I’m so nervous.” Today, she’s shared an essay emphasizing, she didn’t forget the lyrics, she was overcome by them. She writes: “As I took my seat, I felt the humiliating sting of failure, but also the strange realization that I had somehow entered and truly lived the world of the lyrics.” Read the entire essay here at The New Yorker. • As we mentioned earlier this month, UK band Elbow have a new album out in the new year: Little Fictions, out February 3rd via Concord. We now have a video for the single “Magnificent (She Says)” to share, a lovely vignette of life in Asia. Watch below: [Under the Radar]

  • Los Angeles-based Meatbodies are following up their stellar 2014 debut with ALICE, “an 11-track concept album covering war, sex, politics, and religion.” Check out the first single “Creature Feature” below, showcasing the band’s glammed out garage sound. ALICE hits stores February 10th on In The Red Records. [Stereogum]

  • Actor/writer/producer/comedian/musician Donald Glover stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last night — not to talk about his recent Golden Globe nomination for his work on FX’s Atlanta, nor his upcoming role as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Disney Han Solo anthology film, but in support of his latest album as Childish Gambino, a stand-out of last week’s new releases. Watch his electrifying performance of “Redbone” below, backed by a full band, backing singers, and lasers! (And keep track of all these late night TV highlights with KEXP’s TV Eye.)
