Looks like the Christmas spirit has nabbed even tortured ol' Trent Reznor! Late last week, he announced Nine Inch Nails will self-release a new EP on December 23 via the NIN website. Titled Not the Actual Events, a press release illuminates it's a collaboration between Reznor and his longtime collaborator Atticus Ross. Reznor describes the EP, saying, "It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make. It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story." (Hmm, maybe not so Christmassy after all...) But, Reznor's elves have some other treats in store for NIN fans: a limited-edition 4xLP version of 1999's The Fragile with 37 bonus tracks is out in Spring, titled The Fragile: Deviations 1. Also, Reznor and art director John Crawdord are creating “definitive editions of all the major NIN releases on vinyl," starting with Broken, The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile, all available to pre-order now. Julia Holter has a new LP coming out in the Spring. Well, kinda new. The Los Angeles based artist is helping her label Domino Records kick off Domino Documents, their new imprint of live recordings, inspired by the classic BBC Sessions. Holter re-recorded some of her old songs at RAK Studios in London, and the results are compiled for In the Same Room, out March 31st. As a former member of Brooklyn duo The Depreciation Guild, who made instrumentation using a Nintendo Entertainment System, it's no surprise Kurt Feldman returns to video games for his new project Ice Choir. With a new album that's been making lots of KEXP DJ Top Albums lists, Chance the Rapper was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s annual Christmas episode. Watch him perform the tracks "Finish Line" with special guest Noname, and "Same Drugs" with guests Francis and the Lights, both from his excellent LP Coloring Book. He also appeared in a sketch parodying Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" -- keep watching for a special guest appearance there, too. [Consequence of Sound]
