Anyone who got to kick off 2017 with Sleater-Kinney is already very lucky, but it sounds like the show was even better than we could've imagined. For their New Year's Eve concert at San Francisco’s Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium, the ladies paid tribute to artists we've lost this year: David Bowie and George Michael. Better yet, they were joined by opening acts The Thermals and Spoon frontman Britt Daniel. Watch fan-shot footage of Carrie Brownstein belting out Michael's 1987 breakout single "Faith" and a show-closing rendition of Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" with Corin Tucker, Daniel, and Hutch Harris of The Thermals on vocals. Before leaving the stage, Brownstein shouted, "We love you. Protect yourself. Protect each other. Resist!" [Spin]

UK trio The xx are kicking off the new year with more new music from their forthcoming full-length, I See You, out January 13th via Young Turks. Check out the single "Say Something Loving" below. The band also shared a clip filmed in Tokyo of themselves singing karaoke to their own song, which begs the question, did they make a karaoke version just for this 60-second clip? And how do we get a copy for our local karaoke night? [Consequence of Sound]

Another UK trio we're fond of around here is London Grammar, who also share new music today. Watch a gorgeously produced live performance video of the track "Rooting For You" below, which features an a cappella performance from Hannah Reid before the lights come on for a dramatic ending. No information on a full-length yet. It'll be the band's first new album since their 2013 debut, ironically titled If You Wait. [Stereogum]

It may have taken them sixteen years to return, but sample-happy Australians The Avalanches are making up for lost time with more new music. Check out previously unreleased track "Bad Day" below, a collaboration with Freddie Gibbs with a "Gladys Knight cover of Stevie Wonder sample at the end" (as they tweeted themselves). A follow-up tweet says Posdnuos of De La Soul and Spank Rock are both writing extra verses for the song, so stay tuned for those. [Consequence of Sound]
