When last we checked in with the music of Edward Ka-Spel - probably best known for his work with the Legendary Pink Dots - word was he might be touring with said Dots imminently.  Well, the tour has come and gone, and it included a stop at our own Chop Suey. Ed helpfully kept a tour diary, with this nice little 'graph on their Seattle visit: "The Green Room at the Chop Suey in Seattle is small but it has this astonishing armchair. You don’t sit in it, you submit yourself to it, allow it to simply take control. Armageddon could have been going on, but I would slept through . . . Two hours, maybe more and when it was showtime and the moment to wake up, I had to double check the Planet I was on . . . but I loved Seattle show, and savoured every second of it."

Well done, Seattle and Chop Suey! You've made Ed Ka-Spel happy, which is as it should be; he's apparently been making our town happy for decades.

"One of the L.P. Dots but perhaps getting help from some of the others Ed does this solo project and explains some of the influence affecting the LPDs."

"Throw this in H with the 'Dots'! E.K.-S.'s voice should be the most familiar on the radio. Nice tribute to Nick Drake on 'Blowing Bubbles.'"

"'Joey - the Video' is silly!"

"Pretty good musical stuff. I mean I like it. this is neato-bandito."

"Dig this noise."

"God in a cupboard."

"Does this count as a dot?"

"I should have gone hungry for 2 days than sell this."

"Did you sell it to Cellophane? I think bought it there for 3.50."

"Aw yes aw you've got my record. It sure is just swell. I'd rather you have it, anyway, than some stranger."

"3D is God, too."

"I love the drawing (I love you too Alfredo.) (HeeHee.)"

"Holy fuck! The beginning of Hotel Blanc has a big, um, thump in it. Be nice to the records, for Ed's sake!!"

Jimmy and the Mustangs might be lovely people without a bone of misogyny in their bodies (they did, according to their "I swear a member of the band didn't write this" Wikipedia page, make their live debut opening up for the Go-Go's), but there are a few things about their debut album, Hey Little G…

Review Revue: Ism - Constantinople

Every once in a while, I post an album from a band that's been so minimally documented on the Internet that I feel I'm adding significantly to the body of public knowledge about them with one little blog post. This is dangerous because usually I know next to nothing about these bands. Take Ism, for…
