  • The timing of this couldn't be more perfect with David Bowie's 70th birthday (and sadly, the anniversary of his passing) right around the corner: listen to a cover of "Sorrow" from Jenny Lewis below, which is actually a cover of a cover since it's originally by The McCoys, but then popularized by Bowie on 1973's Pin Ups. The reverent tribute will appear on the self-titled debut from Paul Shaffer, the bald, bespectacled former sidekick on Late Night With David Letterman. He's again backed by the World’s Most Dangerous Band, with guest appearances from Bill Murray, Shaggy, Darius Rucker, and more. The album hits stores on March 17th via Sire Records. And keep it tuned to KEXP all weekend long as the David Bowie tribute continues on our airwaves from Sunday, January 8th to Tuesday, January 10th. [Under the Radar]

  • Also on the list of Bowie tributes is the forthcoming 7" single from The Flaming Lips covering "Space Oddity," Bowie's beloved 1969 track. It's a song the band performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year, which you can watch below. Pressed on red vinyl, the single will also feature a new track from the Oklahoma-based band, "Jest (There Is…)." Get yours on January 13th, the same release day as their full-length Oczy Mlody, out via Warner Bros. Records. [Consequence of Sound]

  • No more covers, here's some news about the man himself: this weekend, BBC Two airs the documentary David Bowie: The Last Five Years. Friends and collaborators of David Bowie share their memories of the man, including Johan Renck, who directed his final music videos; Jonathan Barnbrook, who designed his album covers, and famed producer Tony Visconti who shares an audio clip of Bowie charmingly saying "little mouse fart" in the studio. The Last Five Years airs Saturday, January 7th, at 9 PM GMT on BBC Two. Rewatch Renck's video for the track "Lazarus" below. [Pitchfork]
