Did all the new lights in the KEXP Live Room get to him? Because Will Toledo of Car Seat Headrest is talking about collaborating with... Smash Mouth. Yeah, the band behind karaoke go-to "All Star." In an interview with Australia's Triple J radio, he says a project "kind of remains a mysterious front," but adds, if nothing else, they'll "probably cover a few of their songs." Toledo continues, "I grew up obviously knowing their hits, and I have been listening a lot to Astro Lounge, and I still think it’s a great record. The songs really hold up as pop songs." If his Leonard Cohen cover is any indication, this could end up being really cool. [ Consequence of Sound ]

Grunge continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary -- we've seen Temple of the Dog reunite, reissues from Soundgarden, and now an anniversary edition of the Singles soundtrack is scheduled for a May 19th release. Available as 2xLP, 2xCD, and digitally, the deluxe version will feature the original 13 songs as well as unreleased recordings by Chris Cornell, Mike McCready, Mudhoney, Paul Westerberg, and, thank goodness, “Touch Me I’m Dick” by fictional band Citizen Dick (actor Matt Dillon with Pearl Jam members Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, and Jeff Ament; listen below). Via a press release, director Cameron Crowe says, "The album itself was always designed to be sort of an anti-soundtrack, more like a souvenir and a simple mix-tape of some of Seattle’s finest. It really is and was a tribute to those hard-working bands that welcomed me to their city with open arms, and the music so many still love so much." [ Pitchfork ]

As we mentioned earlier this month, NY bad-asses Boss Hog are returning with their first new LP in 17 years, Brood X out March 24th via In The Red Records. Check out the track "Formula X" below from the husband and wife duo of Jon Spencer (of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Pussy Galore) and Cristina Martinez (also, occasionally of Pussy Galore). It was just announced that Austra will be LIVE on KEXP on Valentine's Day, so it's perfect that we get a video today for the single "I Love You More Than You Love Yourself," inspired by the real life former U.S. astronaut Lisa Nowak. (Nowak famously drove from Houston to Orlando in pursuit of a former boyfriend.) In a video directed by M Blash, frontwoman Katie Stelmanis appears in uniform. Via a press release, she shares, "M and I were both fascinated by the story of Lisa Nowak but wanted to explore it through a lens of compassion. We wanted to use it to explore issues of mental health and depression, things so many of us experience, in the hope of further de-stigmatizing such conversations. We've decided to focus the actions leading up to her final arrest, and have tried to convey what it may have been like to be her, and what she was feeling. The final chapter of her story is much less interesting to us than that." Watch below. Austra will also be performing later that night, Tuesday, February 14th, at The Crocodile. [ Under the Radar ]
