  • Sigur Ròs want you to go to hell. No, wait. The Icelandic icons have announced they’ll be organizing their own festival, Norður Og Niður, a name that translates to “go north and go down” but can also mean “everything’s going to hell.” From December 26th through 31st, the venue Harpa will host musical performances, film screenings, art installations, and dance pieces. No specific artists have been named yet, however Sigur Ròs themselves will perform four nights in a row, their first hometown performance in five years. Pre-sale begins Friday, May 12th here, and the band will be offering full travel and tour packages, including flights, hotels, and concert tickets. Check out a trailer for the festival below: [ Stereogum ]

  • Back in late March, Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene shared the new single “Halfway Home,” their first new song in seven years. But, we didn’t know any album news… until today. The LP will be titled Hug of Thunder and will be out July 7th via City Slang/Arts & Crafts. Guests include Feist (who apparently sings lead on the title track), Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric, Amy Millan and Evan Cranley of Stars, and more. Revisit the single below. [ Stereogum ]

  • A week or so after their KEXP in-studio session (which you can still stream in our two-week archive before it expires; select Friday, April 28th at 5:30 PM), alt-J stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live in support of their forthcoming full-length, Relaxer. Watch the guys perform “3WW” and “In Cold Blood” below. (David Spade is guest hosting while Kimmel is out on paternity leave.) Relaxer will be out June 2nd via Canvasback, and the guys return to Seattle on Thursday, October 12th at WaMu Theatre. [ Consequence of Sound ]

  • LCD Soundsystem blew up the internet late last week when they released not one, but two, new songs: “Call the Police” and “American Dream.” Hear the studio versions here, but you can also hear a couple of live renditions as the band was the musical guest on this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live. The group also announced late last week that they’ll be headlining the Sasquatch! Music Festival on Friday night, replacing Frank Ocean who had to drop out due to production delays beyond his control. Keep track of all these late-night TV musical highlights with KEXP’s TV Eye.
