Day one from our Upstream Music Fest & Summit coverage closed off with an intimate, gorgeous performance from Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft), who is no stranger to the KEXP airwaves. Performing mostly tracks off his 1996 debut record, Return of the Frog Queen, Enigk was joined by a handful of talented local musicians, including Tomo Nakayama (performing tomorrow at 10:30 AM at KEXP's broadcast), and composer Andrew Joslyn. Enigk also closed his set with a gorgeous track from his long-awaited forthcoming LP, tentatively out in September of 2017.

Though the tracks are by now over 20 years old, Enigk and co. sounded triumphant and energetic, carrying forth the energy of the recorded album into a live setting. This was amplified by a string quartet, featuring Andrew Joslyn and Alina To (both of Passenger String Quartet), along with Aleida Gehrels and Taylor Rae Jensen. On album highlights like "Carnival" and "Fallen Heart," Enigk sounded spirited by the energy of his band, the finale of "Fallen Heart" bringing the audience gently back to reality.Catch Enigk on Saturday, May 13 at the Fuel Sports Beer Garden at 7:45, playing with the same lineup as today.
