  • Father John Misty stopped by Jimmy Fallon this weekend to promote his latest release Pure Comedy, which has been in near-constant rotation at KEXP since it was released. He played the track "Total Entertainment Forever" which also happened to be one of our Songs of the Day last week. Donning a pair of red (possibly rose-colored?) glasses and a noticeably fuller beard than when we last saw him, Misty gave a seamless performance which should excite all those fortunate enough to have snagged a ticket to his sold out show at the Paramount next Wednesday, May 24th. •  The Mountain Goats are back with a brand new album! The follow up to 2015's Beat the Champ is called Goths and delves into the (semi self-explanatory) topic of goth life, particularly '80s Californian type. The album is unique in that they use absolutely no guitar whatsoever! Goths will be released May 19th on Merge, but NPR is streaming it now. While you're listening, you might want to snag tickets to their show on Monday, June 5th at the Showbox with Holy Sons. [Stereogum]
  • Glasgow post-rock band Mogwai have given us a brand new single called "Coolverine" that will be on their upcoming album, Every Country's Sun, the first proper LP since 2014's Rave Tapes. They've definitely kept busy since then, scoring the BBC film Atomic, a documentary about the splitting of an atom, and Before the Flood, a Leonardo DiCaprio documentary about climate change, as well as the French TV series Les Revenants. Mogwai has also announced an upcoming tour, with a show at the Showbox on Friday, November 24th. [Pitchfork]

  • If you spent this weekend consumed by the hoopla of Upstream, then you probably missed United Way's All-Star Softball Classic featuring local heroes Macklemore and Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie. The game was a charity event for homeless youth and apparently Macklemore did pretty well, getting almost two home runs. Death Cab for Cutie are going to be playing at the Paramount with the Decemberists on Friday, June 9th. [ Stereogum ]
  • Ben Gibbard in rare form ⚾️
