As previously reported, Chris Cornell of the legendary band Soundgarden has passed away. We now have footage of the very last song Soundgarden played before Cornell's death last night in Detroit. "Slaves and Bulldozers" was a deep cut from the album Badmotorfinger and is an interesting choice in light of Cornell's death because its lyrics reference death. They also merged the song with Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying" which makes their last performance a poetically dark one. [ Stereogum, update: Stereogum ]

Brand new indie supergroup BNQT made their first television appearance last night on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The group is made up of Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Midlake’s Eric Pulido, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, and Travis’ Fran Healy but only Pulido and Healy were available to play the show. Their debut album Volume 1 was released last month but has been in the works since 2013, with band members emailing each other and occasionally meeting up at Midlake’s Redwood Studios in Denton, TX, between conflicting touring schedules. Speaking of supergroups, Danger Mouse is clearly a fan of collaborating. Whether it's with James Mercer for Broken Bells, Cee Lo Green for Gnarls Barkely, MF Doom for Danger Doom, or Sparklehorse for the aptly titled project Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, he definitely plays well with others. On his latest project he's teamed up with Run the Jewels and Big Boi for the soundtrack for Angel Elgort's new action film Baby Driver and it's definitely an action-packed ride that breezes by and makes you wanna press the replay button over and over. Experimental rock band Swans have announced their final concerts. Michael Gira revived the band in 2010 after a 13-year hiatus, after which they made four studio albums. “There will be no other East Coast shows surrounding this last stand, and this is it. Finished,” Gira shared on Facebook. Swans were notorious in the '80s for being one of the loudest, darkest, most challenging acts in rock and have been critically acclaimed for their difficult work. Luckily for us, Swans will be in Seattle on Friday, August 25th to perform at the Neptune. [ Pitchfork ]

Los Angeles band Liars have announced a new album via a series of teaser videos. Each teaser video is titled by a single letter; put together it spells "Theme." None of the main details about the album (tracklist, cover art, release date, first single) have been shared. It also seems as though the lineup for the band has changed, with frontman Angus Andrew taking sole control. Liars have released seven studio albums since 2000 and this next one should be released sometime in 2017 via Mute. No Seattle dates have been announced yet. [ Under the Radar ]
