  • Washed Out has delivered a brand-new blissfully sunny track called “Get Lost” just in time to be a contender for Song of the Summer. And it seems Ernest Greene might be aware of that, based on the fun-in-the-sun themed video he just released for the track. Directed by Harvey Benschoter, the video takes vintage cut-outs from advertisements and places them on a sunny California boardwalk, where everything seems happy and carefree. No word on whether this single will be on a follow-up to 2013’s Paracosm and no tour plans have been released. [ Stereogum ]

  • After waiting 16 years in between Since I Left You and 2016’s Wildflower, it seems that The Avalanches are working at a quicker pace for their next album. Band member Robbie Chater told Sydney’s FBI Radio that they’ve been working on a Wildflower follow-up during their ongoing tour. “It’s flowing so quickly. I think getting Wildflower out of the way and following up Since I Left You feels like a weight’s been lifted. The [new] music is really light, it’s some of the best stuff we’ve done. We’ve got eight songs we’re playing to the label on Monday. Who knows when [they’ll be out]? Next year? It’s definitely soon.” [ Spin ]
  • Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal has scored the German film In the Fade, which is currently in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Fatih Akin, the film focuses on a German woman, played by Diane Kruger, who seeks revenge against the Neo-Nazi group that murdered her husband and son. Akin said of Homme’s contribution to the film, “When I was writing this, I was listening to a lot of music by Queens of the Stone Age. I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to. It has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction. I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it.” In the Fade, which takes its title from a track off Queens of the Stone Age’s 2000 LP Rated R, is Homme’s first time composing a film score.  [ Pitchfork ]

  • In other film score news, the recently prolific Johnny Jewel of Chromatics is scoring a new film starring Rashida Jones, James Franco, & Jeffrey Wahlberg. Directed by Bruce Thierry Cheung, the film is called Please Don’t Come Back From The Moon and tells the story of the children of migrant workers who are left abandoned in a small desert town by the Salton Sea. In the past, Jewel has composed for the soundtracks to Bronson, Drive, and the A&E crime drama series Those Who Kill. [ Consequence of Sound ]

  • Real Estate are taking a giant step into the shoe game, and for a good cause. Collaborating with Keep, a Los Angeles vegan footwear company that’s collaborated with a number of other musicians in the past, the shoe is called the “Keep x Real Estate limited edition Ramos” which has a natural gum cup sole as well as a hand-dyed upper area, which gives each shoe a unique design. All proceeds will benefit the ACLU. Alex Bleeker said of the collaboration, “I’ve worn Keep shoes for years, and I wanted to collaborate with Keep so I could wear something that I love that was produced ethically…Real Estate believes firmly in the protection of Americans’ civil liberties and we wholeheartedly support the ACLU, one of our country’s most vital organizations, and their tireless work in these troubling times.” [ Pitchfork ]
