The final day of Upstream Music Fest & Summit finished off with a set from local favorites NAVVI, who continued their run of excellent live performances with a compelling, atmospheric set. Headlining the Hush Hush Records showcase at the Weyerhaeuser Woodshed stage, NAVVI provided an ideal soundtrack to unwind following the three day festival, a packed crowd welcoming the band's singular mixture of Electronic music, R&B, and ambient drones. NAVVI is the project of Brad Boettger and Kristin Henry, who released a string of EPs in 2013/2014, culminating in the band's excellent 2016 debut record, titled Omni. Though still a somewhat new project, the band has perpetually advanced their sound and live set, as evidenced by their Upstream performance.

Culling mostly from the Omni record, NAVVI easily transformed the stage space with their immersive soundscapes, Henry's voice ringing strongly amidst the haze. The duo also played an unreleased track, which fit well within the group's moody purview. Overall, it was an ideal way to end Upstream, and showed that NAVVI will continue to lead Seattle's music scene into the foreseeable future.

Live Review: Laura Marling at Showbox at the Market 4/28/17

For many years, the mantle of "most consistently stellar artist" seemed to be squarely on the shoulders of Spoon, but there's an argument for it to be moved over, if it hasn't already shifted, to Laura Marling. Six very good-to-great albums that each built on its predecessor will do that, though. I…
