KEXP Celebrates Juneteenth on Sunday 6/18

lovelies..

last years celebration of ‘juneteenth, was so well received, kexp is proud to announce that we’ll continue to honor a now annual tradition with a day of programming that honors and celebrates our journey from the darkest days of the middle passage from africa to our full blossom in this land our home. from our description of lat year’s celebration ” Juneteenth isn’t just a commemoration of a specific injustice in our history, but a celebration of coming to terms and making right injustice, a celebration of freedom from within our borders and a continuation of building bridges and stirring of the great pot that makes this country what it is today ” .

this sunday june 18 our entire day – from 9 to noon with johnny horns preaching the blues, continuing with me, dj riz rollins, guiding the airwaves from noon to 3pm and joined by artist and visionary director of community programming at seattle public library c. davida ingram, to evie cooke‘s afternoon of programming, 3 pm – 6pm, stas thee boss will be dedicating an evening of street sounds from 6pm – 9pm and then i’ll return to close the day with expansions from 8 to midnight joined by chef and activist tarik abdullah, discussing his new project of a multi use community space in hillman city, choreographer and historian dani terell, creator of the seattle dance music project, and a set from podcaster dj almond brown of ‘ #now serving ‘ and ‘ board of deacons.
