New York indie outfit Cymbals Eat Guitars have premiered a new video for their third single "Have a Heart," off of last year's album Pretty Years. The overtly political video, directed by Geoffray Barbier, is framed like a fake TV newsreel, featuring footage of protestors in front of Trump Tower, at Standing Rock, and around the country, as well as clips of Donald Trump throughout his candidacy. In a statement, Barbier explained, “When the lyrics shout out to the audience to have a heart and to care for one another, I thought of going out in the streets of New York with a camera and make sense to it. Matthew Dear has been known to dabble in a variety of genres and styles and today he released a new slow thumping electronic song called "Modafinil Blues," written with Troy Nōka, who worked on Frank Ocean's Endless. "Modafinil Blues" is Dear's first original piece under his own name since 2012's Beams. Not that he hasn't been busy. Earlier this year, he released a mix called DJ-Kicks that featured tracks by Nils Frahm, Simian Mobile Disco, and more and in 2016 he released the full-length Alpha and remix album Mouth to Mouth 10 under his alias Audion. Toro Y Moi is releasing his new album Boo Boo next week and in anticipation, the newly-renamed Chaz Bear has shared the second single off the album, "You And I" as well as an accompanying video. "You And I" follows the greatly-loved first single "Girl Like You" and the video vibes are very similar between the two, with a nostalgic '80s look. It also features the same white piano from the "Girl Like You" video, which Bear sits atop while singing into the camera. [ Consequence of Sound ]
Liars have announced today that despite Angus Andrew and Aaron Hemphill parting ways, Andrew would be continuing the Liars project on his own and that there will be a new album called TFCF, which stands for Theme From Crying Fountain. Andrew recorded the new album in his home of Australia, taking field recordings from the bush outside his door. He also shared the first single off TFCF called "Cred Woes" and announced a tour, which includes a date in Seattle at the Crocodile on October 7. TFCF will be released on August 25 via Mute. The xx have a new video for "I Dare You" and it's chock full of stars, both behind and in front of the camera. The video stars Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown, Paris Jackson, Moonlight's Ashton Sanders, Ernesto Cervantes, and Lulu and is directed by Alasdair McLellan in partnership with Calvin Klein's Chief Creative Officer Raf Simons. It's a sunny, carefree narrative about kids in LA. In a statement, the xx described their video as "our love letter to Los Angeles, a city close to our hearts where we wrote and recorded parts of our album I See You." The deluxe edition of I See You came out last Friday. [ Rolling Stone ]
