  • Nashville's Mackenzie Scott, known musically as Torres, is gearing up to release her first album for 4AD called Three Futures. So far, we've heard "Skim" and the title track, and today she's shared "Helen In The Woods." The single comes with a slightly creepy, deranged video directed by Ashley Connor with the spotlight on Scott. Three Futures is out September 29. Torres will be in Seattle on Tuesday, October 10 to play Neumos. [ SPIN ]
  • Leonard Cohen did one last final great act before his death last year, by releasing You Want It Darker only a few weeks prior. The album was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize and at last night's Polaris Music Prize Gala, the posthumous official video for "Leaving The Table" was shared with the audience. It's now available for public consumption. Directed by Christopher Mills, the video features an animated Cohen as he floats above the Montreal skyline, with hinting references to Cohen mythos. • Seattle's Perfume Genius released the fantastic No Shape earlier this year. For the video for "Wreath" he asked fans to send in videos of themselves dancing to the song. According to a press release,"Mike has said the song is partly about feeling betrayed by his physical body and wanting to be freed from it." Editor Marisa Gesualdi compiled those submissions in a heartwarming official video and has also shared the full entry from Esperanza Kroger, who was chosen as the winner. KEXP, STG, and Starbucks are bringing Perfume Genius to the Neptune Theatre on Saturday, October 21 for Little Big Show #19. [ Under the Radar ]
  • Morrissey is releasing a new album called Low In High School this fall via his own label through BMG. We've now gotten the first taste of the album with lead single "Spent the Day in Bed" which prescribes introversion and self-care to combat the difficulties of life. Low in High School was made with Joe Chiccarelli (the White Stripes, the Raconteurs) and will be out November 17th. Morrissey recently created a Twitter account for the first time and tweeted "OR WA CA AZ UT CO MO IL MI DC NY PA MA," hinting at a forthcoming tour. [ Rolling Stone ]
  • Sub Pop signees Downtown Boys released Cost Of Living last month. Today they've revealed the official video for the ripping lead single "Somos Chulas (No Somos Pendejas)" which was directed by Eavvon O'Neal. The video is accompanied by a lengthy statement by the band about the government's recent DACA decision. "Chulas are people who believe in the mergence of our past experiences and what we want the future to be. This mergence becomes our reality, and right now that includes a lot of pain and healing in our community at so many levels. We feel that the recent decision made by the white supremacist faction of our Federal government around DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was not a decision based on economic justice for the USA nor based on advancing real immigration reform. It was based on racism against immigrants. We know a lot of people who like Downtown Boys, come to our shows, or listen to our music are affected by this... We know we can’t do much, but we can try to get as much information on this out there as possible." Downtown Boys are playing a show tomorrow, September 20 at the Vera Project with Criminal Code and My Parade. [ Stereogum ]
