Song of the Day: Pinkshinyultrablast – Find Your Saint

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on The Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Find Your Saint” by Pinkshinyultrablast from a 2017 single on Club AC30.

Pinkshinyultrablast – Find Your Saint (MP3)

Russian shoegazers (now living in Los Angeles) Pinkshinyultrablast topped several end-of-year “Best of 2016″ lists (including Kevin Cole’s) with their sophomore release Grandfeathered. The group is currently working on a third LP, but in the meantime, have shared this single, another fine example of their shimmering sound.

Via a press release, frontwoman Lyubov shares, “It’s strange to think that the memories we cherish the most are in fact the ones that with time become most distorted. The process of recollection is not only an act of reconstructing an image or an event but also to a large extent a product of imagining and perceiving. ‘Find Your Saint’ takes its inspiration from the notions of memory and imagination and considers various ways those become intertwined so closely in an act of recalling. We often retreat to our most darling memories to seek comfort in a moment of desolation, but could it be that even those are nothing more but the ever-improvised beautiful stories we tell ourselves to lull ourselves into sleep and out of lonesomeness?”

The band is all over social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, so follow them to hear about any future Seattle shows. And check out a video for the track “The Cherry Pit” — a KEXP Song of the Day last year — below.
