  • Ty Segall stopped by Conan last night to announce his forthcoming album Freedom’s Goblin and to perform a brand new song “Fanny Dog.” He performed the song about his dog Fanny with seven other bandmates, including a three-piece horn section, all dressed in white jumpsuits. Segall has also shared another track from the album, a cover of Hot Chocolate’s “Every 1’s a Winner.” Freedom’s Goblin is out January 26 via Drag City. He’s previously shared “Alta,” “Meaning,” “My Lady’s On Fire,” and “The Main Pretender” off the forthcoming 19-track album. [ Under the Radar ]

  • The trailer for the British film Dark River has been released and features a PJ Harvey cover of the traditional English folk song “An Acre of Land.” The film was directed by Clio Barnard and will be out in the UK on February 23. Harvey’s latest release was a collaboration with Egyptian artist Ramy Essam for “The Camp.” [ Stereogum ]

  • At this point, St. Vincent has played pretty much every late night show on her promotion blitz for MASSEDUCTION. Typically she plays lead singles “Los Ageless,” “New York,” and/or “Pills” but last night for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon she did things a little differently. Annie Clark chose the melancholy song “Slow Disco” and turned the stage into a church, with the string section sitting in the pews while Clark preached to them. It was such a spectacle, Jimmy Fallon was nearly brought to tears. Clark is stopping by Seattle for two nights, Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19, to play the Moore Theatre. • When Tim Showalter released Strand of Oaks’ latest album Hard Love earlier this year, he had to leave a bunch of songs behind that were deemed “too weird.” Showalter is now giving them a second chance with his upcoming release Harder Love. Featuring original versions of some Hard Love tracks and a bunch of previously unheard songs, Harder Love will be a limited 12″ release of unmastered demos, accompanied by a digital version with two bonus tracks. Today he’s shared the track “Passing Out.” Harder Love is out January 19 via Dead Oceans. [ Paste ]

  • Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/record producer Jonathan Wilson has announced that he’ll be releasing a new album titled Rare Birds in March. Father John Misty will be making an appearance on the album, which is unsurprising since Wilson produced FJM’s Pure Comedy. Lana Del Rey, Lucius, and Laraaji are also featured on the album. Wilson shared the lead single “Over the Midnight,” which draws a strong comparison to the War on Drugs. Rare Birds is out on March 2 via Bella Union. [ Brooklyn Vegan ]
