Surf, pop and gospel describe best the sound of this duo from California. Influenced by the Beach Boys, Stevie Nicks and The Everly Brothers, Best Coast brings a modern mode to the retro style, with harmonies composed by the voice of Bethany Cosentino, along with hers and Bob Brunno’s guitar streaming, and for live performances, the drumming of Adam Garcia.
Best Coast was formed in 2009 by Bethany Consentino and Bobb Bruno. The Californians had previously done recordings on their own, so were very familiar with the type of music they wanted to play. Consentino told her bandmate that she was interested in making music that sounded like the summer, sun and the sea. In other words, she was looking for a style that reminded of the beach as both members love that environment, and also, make a composition that related with their state of origin, California.
Consentino took advantage of the ‘boom’ created by social networking, as she used Myspace in her teen years to promote some of her first songs, although later on she changed her mind, and went from pop to surf and rock that referenced the 1960’s with Bruno, influenced mostly by The Beach Boys, Ramones, Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles.
Best Coast has not released an album yet, but has gained already tons of popularity thus singles “The Sun Was High (So Was I)”, “Something In the Way” and “When I’m With You”. The songs were part of Best Coast’s act at the KEXP‘s South by Southwest live broadcasting, sharing with the audience their energy, and indie style at The Gibson Showroom is Austin, Texas.
