Back in 2006, Simon Balthatzar gathered a group of experimental musicians together to create Fanfarlo. Reservoir is the title of their debut album, which was released in February 2009, gained lots of attention thus the success of singles “The Walls Are Coming Down” and “Ghosts”. Fanfarlo breaks with traditional indie-rock scheme, collecting great instrumentation referencing the folk genre. Their record also reflects Fanfarlo’s great exercise in music, perceive in the distinctive style they use to perform each melody.
The combination of rock with something less common for its Brit-indie genre, as Fanfarlo uses trumpet, violin and mandolin, has placed this experimental musicians as one of the most representative of their style, not only for their classical-rock rythms, but for the sentiment of melancholy they bring within the lyrics. Their upbeat definitely makes them a unique band.
Fanfarlo performed at the 2010 edition of SXSW Music Conference, playing for the KEXP‘s live broadcasting singles “The Walls Are Coming Down“, “Ghosts” plus “Finish Line/Harold T. Wilkin“, “I’m A Pilot” and “Luna“.
