Starting today, in honor of his 65th birthday today, we’re proud to present Honest With Me, a series of stories on the musical life of Bob Dylan… Produced by our very own Michele Myers! Told by Dylan’s friends, scholars and fans, Honest With Me features firsthand accounts from Joan Baez, Al Kooper, Izzy Young and the Band’s Robbie Robertson!
Today’s edition is Rolling Stone Renegade - Rolling Stone Magazine recently named the 500 greatest songs of all time. Their number one pick was Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone”. This story’s told by Al Kooper, the studio guitarist who jumped in, uninvited, to play the organ during the first take of Dylan’s masterpiece.
Listen to Al Kooper tell his story along with “Like A Rolling Stone” from Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan - (WMA, Real)

Great idea. Well done. Much of Dylan’s music from the 1960s is as relevant today as it was then. I’m curious if anybody has any Dylan stories. I remember seeing him in Greenwich Village before I actually knew who he was. What a talented group of singers were working the coffee houses at the time.
These are excellent pieces. Check ‘em out. The guy wrote so many great songs. I mean JESUS! And as far as any Dylan stories, I can tell you about his stalking security henchman at his JazzFest show last month. And I hate to say, Dylan shows nowadays suck. Let’s face it. Still, I listen to his records all the time though.
I just have to say thank you for all the great Dylan songs and covers the other day. Although I have to admit that when I tuned in and KEXP was playing all these Dylan songs, I freaked out. I didn’t realize it was his birthday, so I thought maybe he had died. That’s when you usually hear whole sets dedicated to an artist like that. I was very happy to hear that he wasn’t dead yet.
Dylan Rules!
For those interested in Dylan’s XM Radio show “Theme Time” there is a link to some of the show in MP3 format located here:
