Song of the Day: Coco B’s - Modern Lover

Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is Modern Lover by Coco B’s from their 2007 self-titled debut, available through the band’s website.

Coco B’s - Modern Lover (MP3) After the fallout of previous band Retriever, Kevin Castle (guitar/vocals) and Bob Penn (drums) formed Coco B’s, releasing several EPs to slow, somewhat hushed, yet critical acclaim. Hailing from the outskirts of musically saturated Orange County, Coco B’s have made a name for themselves by revisiting the sounds of the Replacements, R.E.M., and other early 90’s tastemakers. The demo sent to NME in early May received “Demo of the Week” honors while Popmatters called their Firehawks and Dirtybirds EP some of the best music that’s ever been released, period. With Alex Newport (Two Gallants, Sepultura) on production detail, expect a splash of tidal wave proportions from these up-and-comers. While touring exclusively in California thus far, Coco B’s played LA’s Little Radio (Summer Camp) yesterday with Great Northern and will be featured on LA’s KXLU later this month.Check out the band’s website and MySpace page for downloads and up-to-date information.
