Yesterday, Animal Collective premiered the the first video/single from their forthcoming album, Strawberry Jam (due Sept. 11) on YouTube. Here’s “Peacebone,” directed by Timothy Saccenti:
According to Murmurs, R.E.M. is set to release their first ever live CD/DVD (wow, what band from the 80’s didn’t put out a live video?). The 2-disc set of the aptly titled R.E.M. Live will feature the band’s performance at Point Theatre in Dublin on February 27th, 2005, and will be available on October 16. Here’s the trailer:
Bob Mould is on the road promoting his new concert DVD, a first for him also. As reported on Brooklyn Vegan, the former Hüsker Dü and Sugar guitarist “will play a short acoustic set (approx 30 min), participate in a live interview and/or Q + A (approx 30 min), host a DVD screening of Circle Of Friends, and sell and sign DVDs for fans.” Circle of Friends, filmed at Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club on October 7, 2005, features a career’s worth of songs. Bob will screen the DVD in Seattle on October 12 at Chop Suey. Here his is performing “A Good Idea” from the upcoming video:
Baltimore’s electrospaz Dan Deacon also has a DVD due out by the end of the year (his first too!). Ultimate Reality, will be released on Carpark Records, and according to the press release “is a collaborative performance by Dan Deacon and Jimmy Joe Roche that combines an intense musical composition for electronics and two live drummers (from the bands Ponytail and Video Hippos) with a psychedelic montage of Arnold Schwarzenegger films that is projected at a monumental scale.” Sound like an elaborate joke? R.E.M. from 2005. Do not want!
I disagree. Having seen their Fables… tour and most tours after that, I found them to be a consistently great live act. Their 2003 performance at Bumbershoot was astounding.
