As one of the founding members of Broken Social Scene, Kevin Drew, here with many of his BSS cohorts, gives us a more individualist take on a familiar BSS sound. On Spirit If… Drew employs the same melodic, multi-layered approach with the same focus on fighting and f#$king, but this time around the stage is his. While Leslie Feist, Stars, and Emily Haines, all contributing members of BSS, have struck up their own individualistic styles, Drew reveals here that the BSS sound is, more or less, what he’s all about. It has been confirmed that Brendan Canning, the other BSS founder, will release his own solo-but-with-BSS album sometime next year. It will be interesting to see which direction Canning takes, but for now, we’ll keep enjoying everything we’ve come to love from Drew and the sound he’s cultivated over the last couple of years.
