This L.A.-based nine piece, formed in 2001, has made a reputable name for itself on the live circuit backing the Pharcyde, Breakestra, Eddie Bo, Little Brother and others. Beyond their breakout cover of Funky Nassau,
The Killion Floor marks the group’s recorded debut and is a welcome addition to the new blend of retro-soul and funk that’s cropped up over the last couple years. In a nutshell, they provide a jazzy, funky, horn-laden disco party not soon to be forgotten. Fanny Franklin’s soulful voice is sure to draw comparisons to KEXP favorite Sharon Jones, and fans of the Dap-Kings stuff should do everything short of trampling one another to get their hands on this Orgone disc.
