Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is Marshmallow
by Muscles from the 2007 album Guns Babes Lemonade on Modular.
Muscles is a one-man band from Melbourne that shot straight to the top of the Australian dance charts. His Guns Babes Lemonade album is not just amazing in itself for having that it’s so cheesy, it’s good
vibe, but it must have been one of the funnest records to make in recent years, Junior Senior included. Much like Junior Senior, Muscles gets heavy into harmonies and shouts his catchy lyrics with such enthusiasm, you’ll be singing along on your first run-through. Whether or not you’re into the embarrassingly humorous lyrics, primarily about girls and hooking up, you can’t deny the infectious trance-pop beats. Tour dates on his MySpace page are pretty bare right now, but the enjoyment of headlining sold-out shows in Australia can only last for so long… right? Check out this video for the hit single Sweaty
