No, not the sleepy town in Southern California — the band from Los Angeles. Earlimart, one of the KEXP family favorites, will begin their whirlwind tour of Seattle today. They’ll start with a live performance from the KEXP Studios at Noon, followed by a FREE In-Store show at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard (5PM), and then their main performance later tonight at Chop Suey (8PM).
The song “Sounds” was the first I heard from Earlimart almost four years ago. Flash forward to 2008 and their latest album, Hymn and Her, is a bit more hushed this time around. That doesn’t mean less exciting, just less Pixiesesque than some of those first songs I heard. Despite numerous roster changes over the years and only 2 of the original band members remaining (Aaron & Ariana), there’s no need to panic — the sound is signature Earlimart and the new album is amazing.
Besides, didn’t you know that 2-piece bands are all the rage this year? (see also: No Age, Helio Sequence, The Kills, The Ting Tings)
