Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is 2CB by from the 2008 album Sorry For All the Mondays and For Those Who Can’t Sing on Mpls Ltd.

This Minneapolis band got its start a few years back as a crazy-haired group of teenage upstarts hoping to create a music commune in Portland, OR. Their sound is certainly reminiscent of the primarily West Coast psychedelic scene, reaching all the way back to its ’60s roots. Their local Minnesota media ate ‘em up from the get-go, and the band ended up on several year-end who’s-who lists. In February they recorded their long-awaited and long-titled debut album, Sorry For All the Mondays and For Those Who Can’t Sing, at Flowers Studio, venturing into what former drummer Kieran Holcomb calls a darker, more tribal, more psychedelic, kind of spiritualized kind of thing. Fans of LA’s The Warlocks and Austin’s Black Angels will easily assimilate this newcomer to the modern psych scene while they’re yet in the midst of finding a truly original sound. However, while the search goes on, the band has more than enough boy/girl vocals, instrumental drones and other oddball surprises to keep things interesting. According to their MySpace page, there are only a few upcoming tour dates and all of them within their home state, but this is definitely calm-before-the-storm time so stay tuned, and enjoy the following live performance of Green Turns To Gold:
