The bad news? McCarren Park Pool, location of the KEXP-sponsored JellyNYC Pool Parties, will no longer be the hipster haven and host to the free concerts, numerous plays, film screenings, and dodgeball games. No, it seems the septuagenaric pool (built in 1936) will be renovated back to its original purpose: an actual public swimming pool.
The good news? The now empty Williamsburg aquatic center will host one final concert, tomorrow, August 30, featuring Sonic Youth, Wolf Eyes, Times New Viking and Vivian Girls. Tickets for this soon-to-be historic event are now available through ticketmaster.com, phone charge (212) 307-7171, the Nokia Theatre box office (44th & B’way), and Earwax Records.
The best news? This morning on the KEXP Blog, we’re giving away 5 pairs of tickets! Write in now during the Morning Show (9AM-12PM EST) with the subject line “Sonic Youth tickets”, and we’ll pick five emails at random. Winners will be notified by 2PM (EST). (The give-away is over. Thanks to all who entered.)
