Earlier this year The Old 97’s released their 11th studio effort Blame It On Gravity, which was recorded in Dallas-where they got their start, with a renewed emphasis on lead singer/guitarist Rhett Miller’s songwriting. As they got back to their roots physically, the album also brought their sound back to a more raucous and amp-filled brand of alt-country meets power pop that has crowds flocking to see them every they come to town. Still intact is Miller’s trademark emotional honesty but his lyrics reflect on where he is in his life now — after 15 years on the road, through the ups and downs in his career- it was time to come home.
