Andrew Bird played a proper hometown show at the full capacity Frank Gehry designed Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park in Chicago on September 3rd. He played for almost two hours to 15,000 glowing fans, old and new, young and old. It was a free show, but reserved pavilion seats were for the charity Rock for Kids. Chicago’s own Oprah Winfrey taped an Olympic special featuring members of the U.S. Olympic team that morning, and the perk related to this is that she left all of her screens up, to be utilized for the concert. The show consisted of songs from nearly every album, new songs, a cover by the Handsome Family, and a closer of an old Charlie Patton tune that closes out his first album. It was a perfect mix of an amazing looking venue, top notch sound, and an artist completely on the top of his game.
