Papercuts is a band name that’s easy to misread. Forget Doc Martins, spikes, and mosh-pits; there’s nothing dangerous here at all. This is laid back, mostly mellow music. In the traditional sense, Papercuts might not be considered a band at all. In fact, Papercuts is for the most part Jason Quever, another endless traveler and songwriter who stopped in San Francisco and made it his home. Beautifully layered songs enhance Jason’s falsetto voice and it’s obvious from the start that he’s a very talented musician all around. He’s also smart enough to surround himself with exceptional talent as well, working and touring with bands like Beach House and securing an opening spot touring with Grizzly Bear. A shining example of sonic prowess, Jason is another retro analog purist. Papercuts’ sound is definitely fresh and new, but it’s also strangely familiar, like a modern indie twist on some cool classic lounge tunes you’ve heard from the 60’s. Maybe you could call it “Summer Lounge Music from a sad beach”. Papercuts will release its 3rd album, You Can Have What You Want, on Gnomsong Records (April 14th).
