Building on last year’s self-titled album, Conor Oberst is back with another full-length record, this time co-written by the members of the Mystic Valley Band. After touring extensively on the S/T release, Oberst and company moved the recording operation from Tepozlan, Mexico, to the vicinity of El Paso, Texas. Anyone who has lost track of Oberst following his detour from Bright Eyes can catch up by watching the free documentary One of My Kind. The 60-minute film begins with the band’s time in Mexico and goes all the way through the recording of Outer South. Also, there are some brief but good profiles on each member of the Mystic Valley Band over on Oberst’s MySpace page. East Coasters are going to want to pay attention to the band’s July dates as many of them are opening slots on Wilco’s upcoming tour.
