Each week we make a short radio story — a KEXP Documentary — on a musical subject. Our current series is Psychedelics, and this past week we profiled The Beatles. Focusing on their first psychedelic albums: Revolver, Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper’s.
John, Ringo, Paul and George had made a name for themselves as charismatic teen idols with a wholesome image. Once they started experimenting with marijuana and LSD their look changed drastically. They grew long hair and beards, wore flowered robes and John started sporting those granny glasses. The music changed too, becoming more trippy and introspective.
KEXP Documentaries are produced by Michele Myers, with Kate Shantry, John Felthous, Leah Pogwizd and Zeek Earl. You can find all our documentary series including: Punk Evolution, Masters of Turntablism, Heart of Soul and more in the On Demand section of kexp.org.
