If you thought you were going to give your bank account a break on this short, post-Labor Day week, you are mistaken… but happily mistaken because it’s a time of happy returns as some newer and much older favorites reunite or continue to put out new albums. Brooklyn’s Vivian Girls, who just performed live on KEXP from the Bumbershoot Music Lounge, return with a strong sophomore release of fuzzy garage rock. Seattle-based ambient project Lusine, along with Yo La Tengo, Wild Beasts, HEALTH, Frank Turner, Amy Millan, Wheedle’s Groove, and Rodrigo Y Gabriela are also back with with excellent new albums, but some artists this week go much further into the past: New Zealand cult band The Clean’s new one, Mister Pop, is their first in eight years; Chapel Hill noise rockers Polvo’s In Prism is their first in a dozen years; and Brazilian psych experimentalists Os Mutantes‘ Haih is their first album of new material in 35 years! If that’s not enough, there’s a huge 17-disc box set of remastered Beatles albums, which are also available individually, in addition to The Beatles: Rock Band, which I know a bunch of music nerds are drooling over right now!
