- Frequently played KEXP band, Cymbals Eat Guitars, just switched out their bassist for a new guy named Matthew Whipple. The last guy, Neil Berenholz, according to Pitchfork according to CEG’s publicist, left the band amicably because “he didn’t like touring.” Well, that’s probably good because they’re doing a heck of a lot of it lately. But he left before getting to open for the Flaming Lips, which they’ll be doing in London next month.

- So, I guess, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys will be performing at Yankee Stadium for the second game of the World Series tonight. Whatever. Go Phillies!
- Like covers? I do. And I often discover them through awesome cover blogs like CopyCats and session blogs like Daytrotter. It was from the latter that I discovered a new cover by Magnolia Electric Co. Get going and check out their version of Warren Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns and Money.”
- Speaking of covers! Remember that Dark Was the Night compilation that came out earlier this year? It’s raised a respectable $668,358 for the Red Hot Organization, and consequently AIDS awareness, so far.
